Larian Studios Announce a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The speculation surrounding The Game Awards was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.

A Different Direction

Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. Larian stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This choice of words suggests that the team might be designing a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—qualities that recently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs that are viable with a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also notoriously flexible, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be approached in a variety of manners, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you recalled something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, the RPG community can get ready for more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
